August 14, 2020 – 1990 Laureate Martin Beaver, currently on faculty at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, will perform all ten of Beethoven’s sonatas for piano and violin over the next ten weeks.

He and pianist Fabio Bidini (also from the Colburn School) will begin with the Sonata for Violin and Piano in D, Op. 12, No. 1 – a work Beethoven wrote while studying with Haydn, and dedicated to Salieri, with whom he also studied briefly.

We are happy to present you with this brief interview with Martin as he discusses this project and his inspiration since winning the “Beethoven Prize” at the IVCI’s 3rd Quadrennial in 1990.

June 5, 2020 – 2002 Bronze Medalist Soovin Kim is at home in Boston with his wife Gloria Chien and two beautiful little boys, who have “taken over” the quarantine greetings and loving every minute of it. Afterwards, the Chien-Kim-Watkins Trio presents the first movement of Beethoven’s “Archduke” Piano Trio in B-flat, Op. 97.

May 29, 2020 – From beautiful Haarlem in The Netherlands, 2006 IVCI Silver Medalist Simone Lamsma unveils a gorgeous backdrop along the River Spaarne as she reflects on her time at home.

Simone also invites her beloved IVCI friends to enjoy a 2017 performance of Saint-Saëns’ Violin Concerto No. 3 with Le Siècle, conducted by François-Xavier Roth. You can access the performance video here.

May 22, 2020 – 2006 Laureate Bella Hristova is staying thoroughly busy at her home in Philadelphia with husband/composer David Ludwig and a few furry family members (who try their best to upstage their owners). Bella performs Ellen Taaffe Zwilich’s Fantasy, the commissioned work for the 9th Quadrennial IVCI Competition in 2014.

May 15, 2020 – 1998 Gold Medalist Judith Ingolfsson delivers her message of greeting from her home in Baltimore after a last-minute move plus a busy teaching and live-stream performance schedule from home. She and husband/pianist Vladimir Stoupel perform the first movement of Schumann’s Violin Sonata No. 2 in D minor.

May 8, 2020 – 1994 Gold Medalist Juliette Kang sends a message of greetings from her home in Philadelphia and shows how fun (and successful!) it can be to perform chamber music with colleagues across town. Juliette performs an excerpt of Bach’s Violin Sonata No. 3 in C, and the Finale of Mozart’s Piano Quartet No. 1 in G minor with family and colleagues.

May 1, 2020 – 2014 Silver Medalist Tessa Lark delivers a special message from her home in NYC discussing her current home life and shares a recent cathartic experience while putting together a performance of Fauré’s “Berceuse” with pianist Marc-André Hamelin — quarantine style!

April 24, 2020 – 2018 Laureate Shannon Lee sends a message of greetings to IVCI friends and patrons, and includes a recent performance of the finale of Stravinsky’s Divertimento for Violin and Piano.

April 17, 2020 – From his home in Berlin, 2018 Bronze Medalist Luke Hsu sends a message of greeting to patrons, remembering his recent collaboration with the Jacobs School of Music String Academy Chamber Orchestra with Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. Following the introduction, please enjoy their performance of “Spring,” which was recorded live on February 16, 2020 in downtown Indianapolis for the IVCI’s Laureate Series.

April 10, 2020 – Romanian-born 2018 IVCI Laureate Ioana Cristina Goicea offers patrons a few words about what keeps her busy during this quarantine time, plus a heartfelt excerpt from her September 2018 Competition performance of Mendelssohn’s Song Without Words, Op. 62, No. 1, arranged by Kreisler.

April 3, 2020 – 2014 Gold Medalist Jinjoo Cho spends a few minutes talking about her quarantined life in Montreal, what keeps her busy, and offers a video from a December 2019 performance of Paganini’s Cantabile.

March 25, 2020 – During the nation’s quarantine to help stop the spread of COVID-19, 1994 Bronze Medalist David Chan and 2018 Gold Medalist Richard Lin offer an uplifting message, with a link to their recent collaboration with the Montclair Orchestra featuring Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy, click here.
